Spuds Unearthed!

May 8 – October 11, 2010

East Gallery

The humble potato has been called the hero of foods. Originating in the Andes of South

America, the nutrient-filled potato has been taken across the globe and saved populations

around the world from starvation. From fingerlings to big bakers, purple, red, yellow and

white, the spectacular spud family is widely diverse, yet we tap into few of its more than

7,000 varieties. And it’s got personality —as the endurance of Mr. Potato Head demonstrates.

Learn about the potato’s history, diversity, and its mark on pop culture in this wide-ranging

exhibition.
